Extension Disaster Preparedness and Recovery
Work involving Disaster Preparedness and Recovery by the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service is a collaboration with our partner institution Kentucky State University and the Kentucky Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN), to develop resources to support Extension agents as they educate their communities about disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.
Kentucky EDEN is a part of the Extension Disaster Education Network, a collaborative multi-state effort supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Institute of Food and Agriculture and Cooperative Extension Services across the country to reduce the impact of disasters through research-based education.
This site is intended to serve Kentucky Extension agents and all Kentucky residents by sharing educational resources that reduce the impact of natural and man-made disasters on individuals, families and communities.
Our primary goals are to:
- Provide credible and reliable information relating to disaster preparedness and recovery for individuals, families and urban and/or rural communities.
- Reduce the impact associated with disaster by disseminating educational materials related to disaster mitigation, preparedness and recovery.

Message from Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association
Thank you to everyone who has contacted our office wanting to help those affected by the flooding in Eastern Kentucky. Our thoughts and prayers are with our fellow Kentuckians.
KCA has been in contact with several Extension agents and Cattlemen's members to hear where and how best to help. If you would like to give monetary donations, our office is set up to receive these through our Kentucky Cattlemen’s Foundation. You can mail those to 176 Pasadena Dr., Lexington, KY 40503.
Volunteer to Help
The Kentucky Farm Bureau and Kentucky Department of Agriculture are receiving many calls asking how to volunteer. As flood waters recede, farmers across the state will begin the process of clearing their pastures and cropland of debris left behind by the flood waters. University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Agents across the state are teaming up with Kentucky Farm Bureau, Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Kentucky Cattlemen’s and others to organize volunteer opportunities for those that wish to help.
Donations Management & Planning
Commonly requested items from impacted farmers include hay, feed and fencing, as well as seed donations. As we come into spring, people will need to seed pastures. Cotton module covers and tarps are also useful.
Educational Resources
This website is packed with information dealing with floods and other natural disasters. Please contact your local County Extension Office for additional support.
